Mo’ Money; No Problems
Mariano Rivera notched his 500th save in the finale of the Subway Series last night, but that was not the highlight of his evening. After all, how could the highlight of the evening be something that he’s done 499 time before?
Mo got the chance to bat with the bases loaded in the top of the 9th, and finally got that elusive first RBI he has always dreamed of. Seems he finally figured out that his best bet was to take, and that’s exactly what he did by forcing in a run. In previous attempts, managers Joe Torre and Joe Girardi had instructed him to take in the fews opportunities he has had to swing the bat in interleague play, but Mo continually hacked away.
Mariano is only the second member of the 500 save club, and trails Trevor Hoffman’s 571 for second all time. Congratualtions Mo – it’s a stone cold lock to say that you’ll be the only AL pitcher to get an RBI in his 500th save. Not to mention that 500 save: 1 RBI ratio is likely never to be matched again.
