Q&A with Cubs Catcher Geovany Soto
27pitches was recently able to catch up with Cubs backstop Geovany Soto for a telephone interview…or so we thought. The answers to some of our simple questions made us wonder whether or not it was actually Geovany. But then we saw this story, and things started to add up.
27: Geovany, thanks for taking the time. We just have a few quick questions for the fans if that’s ok with you.
Geovany Soto (GS): The dude abides.
27: Um, ok…let’s just gets started. Do you have any rituals or routine that you stick to before or after a game?
GS: Excellent question. Before a game, I generally like to listen to Widespread Panic or Deep Bananan Blackout, as those are my two favorite bands. Afterwards, I often meet up with my girl Mary Jane and we eat a lot of junk food.
This is my shirt.
27: …interesting. Didn’t really peg you for a jam band guy or someone who eats a lot of junk food, but whatever works, right? Any favorite movies?
GP: Oh yeah, I watch movies with Mary Jane all the time. Half Baked, Waking Life, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, all the classics.
27: Well, I don’t know if I would deem all three of those classics, but to each his own. Read any books when you go on the road?
GP: You say tomato, I say tomato. As for the books, I just finished reading a biography of Bob Marley and have now moved on to The Idiot’s Guide to Horticulture.
27: Wow, that’s quite a hobby – do you do a lot of gardening in the offseason?
GP: Yes.
27: Care to elaborate?
GP: No.
27: Ok, it seems we’ve taken up too much of your time already. Any last words to the millions upon millions of 27pitches.com readers?
GP: What’s a 27pitches?
27: Nice. Well, that about wraps it up.
