Friday Mish Mosh: NFL Is Back, Baseball Is Still Here, Life Is Good
Ok, so the NFL season opener had a little bit of everything last night – a terribly boring second half (minus the last two minutes), an incredibly hard fought, smash mouth battle in the second half, a costly fumble, and an overtime coin toss win. I still stand by my Titans as a sleeper team, but not so sure it was wise to pick two sleepers from the same division as the Steelers, as first glance seems to suggest that their defense and Ben Roethlisberger’s clutch drives will have them back in the postseason barring numerous injuries to star players. However, the Titans did expose the Steelers’ Achilles’ heel – lack of a running game. Those third and short situations were brutal and Fast Willie Parker was looking neither fast nor tough. Both defenses were extremely impressive and I expect them to give opposing offensive coordinators fits throughout the season.

Keep an eye out for Derek Jeter taking over sole possession of the Yankees’ all time hit list this evening. The guy is a class act and has been a top notch player for 14 years now.
What’s worse – owning Hines Ward on your fantasy team last night or this story? Pretty obvious to me.
Are you on Twitter? If so, here’s a real easy way to try and win $100 each week. I’m a frequent FanDuel user, so if anyone out there signs up and wants to schedule a duel, I’ll take any reader on any time (and if someone does want to sign up let me know and we’ll both get bonuses for the referral).
Anyone out there in a suicide pool this year? I’m in two – I’m starting off the season as cautiously as possible – I’m taking the Ravens over the Chiefs in one and the Saints over the Lions in another.
Everybody enjoy the weekend – the NFL is back and Sundays have an entirely new dynamic for the next few months. Not to mention those of us with baseball teams still in the hunt can begin to get ready for another autumn of playoff baseball.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
