Talking World Series with the Anonymous Mets Fan
Yankees and Phillies fans are obviously on top of the world with their teams both vying for the ‘09 Championship. Aside from that, fans of all other teams are probably interested in seeing these two juggernauts go head to head – well, aside from one team’s fan base.
For Mets fan, this World Series must be absolutely terrible. You have the big brother New York Yankees and their fans, who hope to rub in Mets fans’ faces a 27th world title. On the other side, you have your most hated division rival, your true arch-nemesis, fresh off of their first title in 28 years, trying to win the elusive repeat title. I probably said this a dozen times throughout the season, but just when you thought it couldn’t be any worse to be a Mets fan, it gets worse. And without further adieu, a brief snapshot into the head of a pitiful Mets fan – yes, it is none other than the Anonymous Mets Fan.

Have you watched/will you watch the rest of the Series?
I watched the first game up to the point of the Phils taking a 5-0 lead. I really just couldn’t watch anymore of that game especially being in a bar full of Philles fans commenting on every pitch and just short of pronouncing the Phillies the World Series Champs before Game 1 even ended.
Game 2 happened to be airing at the same time that my alma matre, as my Virginia Tech Hokies were playing the Tar Heels – so I was flipping back and forth. The ultimate letdown of the Hokies in the final seconds of play led me to watch the last two innings of game 2 to see Mariano dominate.
Who are you rooting for and why?
As difficult as it is for me to say I have to root for the Yankees. Don’t get me wrong, I despise the Yankees and wish, somehow, that nobody would win. I seem to be in the minority of Mets fans on my stance, but my hatred of the Phillies far outweighs that of the Yankees. I mostly attribute this to my cocky friends and co-workers ripping on my beloved Mets over the last three years.
Name the three players in this World Series who you hate the most.
Jimmy (J-Roll) Rollins, Jason Werth and Johnny Damon. I can’t stand the “J-Roll” nickname so he is by far the player I hate most. Call me petty but that ugly piece of facial hair on Werth, which is best suited for absorbing any “liquid” that dribbles out his mouth, is a large driving force of my hatred. I don’t really know why I hate Johnny Damon, he just really pisses me off.
Desire aside, how do you honestly see it playing out – who wins and how many games?
Yankees in 7….at the beginning of the series I said Yankees in 6.
World Series MVP will be Derek Jeter.
World Series Goat will be Cole Hamels.
