
Some things just aren’t meant to have their meaning extracted for fun, and one of those things is the homerun. When it naturally occurs during a game, a homerun has the potential to be many different things: a game changer, a walk-off win, a record breaking statistic, etc. The Homerun Derby is a different story altogether.

Given the circumstances and the way his name lends itself to nifty titles and phrases, it was difficult to steer clear of the “Halladay Weekend” headline that you have seen all over the Internet at this point. Dress it up however you like, but the simple fact is that Roy “Doc” Halladay added another notch in his belt last night when he sat down 27 Florida Marlins in a row. Just 20 days after the Oakland Athletics’ Dallas Braden accomplished the feat, Halladay becomes just the 20th player in the history of the game to become perfect.

But in doing so, the Phillies solidified their role as the powerhouse and class of the National League, and made sure to let the AL know that there can be AL-power on an NL team.
