It’s late and I am exhausted but some things cannot wait. Tonight, sports lovers who were privy to what was taking place in Detroit got to witness sports history. I’m not talking about events that make players, coaches, fans, referees, or, in this case, umpires, famous. No, no, I’m talking about those intersections of sports and drama that make people and places infamous.

Baseball has taken a bit of a back seat the past few days as March Madness has begun sweeping the nation and fans ready their brackets. However, last night’s Team USA win over Puerto Rico in the WBC was phenomenal, and that is a gross understatement.

You would think that starting up an MLB-focused blog a day after the annual “New York Yankee spring training confessional” press conference implies a focus on this year’s circus leader, Alex Rodriguez. However, there’s plenty a of media coverage concerning his use of banned substances from 2001-2003; instead, I’d like to draw some attention to another story that was conveniently planned to slip under the radar as A-Rod demanded the attention of baseball fans everywhere. It’s a story that is as infuriating as it is expected.
