Time to Relax on the Redskins

It’s been two months since the Eagles sent Donovan McNabb to the Redskins in a rare interdivision trade, and in those two months there’s been a lot of talk about McNabb being the savior that Dan Snyder has been looking for since he took over the team and began his off-season spending sprees. But is McNabb alone enough to bring the Redskins back to respectability?

Mr. McNabb Goes to Washington

Even after a few days this still seems surreal. (Mitchell Layton/Getty Images)

A good friend of the blog, Dan Wing, has decided to weigh in on the Donovan McNabb saga. Wing is the sports director for WBCB radio 1490 in the Philadelphia suburbs, where he covers everything from the local high school sports teams to the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers. Wing has also been gracious enough in the past to have me on his station to banter about all things NFC East and the occasional wild card topics. Wing is one of the more knowledgeable people around about Philly-area sports, so we are pleased to bring you his take on the trade that shook the I-95 corridor and hopefully we’ll be hearing from him again soon. Enjoy!

The Worthiness of Warner

Warner has come a long way from stocking shelves and during his 10 years in the league left a lasting mark.

With the impending announcement from Kurt Warner that he will retire as the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, ending an up and down career, many will turn their focus to Matt Leinart and Donovan McNabb, two names rumored to fill the highly desirable gig starting for a legitimate Super Bowl contender (or at least they were with Warner at the helm). But before I get ahead of myself and start to talk about something that probably won’t be resolved until after the draft, I just wanted to take a look back at his rise from grocery stockboy to Super Bowl and league MVP.

Donovan McNabb — ever heard of him? He’s the lightning rod of a human being that QBs for a team that is always competitive but never wins the trophy. But will he be with that team in 2010?

8 (in the box) for (week) 9

"Now Eli, tell me what you were doing in that limo." (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)

Can you tell that I’m pretty exhausted? That was my best attempt at a clever headline, so I am clearly off my game. I feel like LaDainian Tomlinson with a football in his hand and he’s going, “Now I know I used to know what to do with this, but I just can’t remember, my legs just wont move.” That’s exactly how I feel in front of my computer right now. But unlike Tomlinson, I am far from done and my career is just hitting its stride and I am just starting to give you the football knowledge you so crave. However, I will warn you, this week I am having an off week

Sunday Funday Part 2: Keys to an Eagle Win

We will find out if this McCoy is real very soon.

Before I get started here, a disclaimer: I’m not Brandon and thus these three keys will be about half the length. As everybody knows, Brandon has a tendency to be longwinded (this also rings true in person). Here are my succinct three keys – or, more accurately, three players that will determine the outcome of this game.

Sunday Funday Part 1: Keys to a Giant Victory

If the giants get the big boy Jacobs going, it

This week Sean and I have decided to devote extra attention to the divisional matchup between the Giants and Eagles as they duke it out for first place in the rugged NFC East. The decision was made based on the fact that normally in the week leading up to a game between these two rivals, we carry on through extensive e-mail chains and taunting text messages about why each team is better than the other. And honestly, it gets to be quite ridiculous. So instead of subjecting you to reading these, lengthy, yet wildly entertaining exchanges, we decided to keep it civil and simply discuss three keys to victory for each team as they hope to gain control of the division.

Back for Seconds: Burning Questions for NFL’s Week 2

After one week of play, many questions still remain about every team in the NFL. It’s extremely tough to determine anything after just one game, and teams should not panic or feel too good about themselves after Week 1. But after two weeks things become a little clearer. So with a lot of intriguing matchups this weekend, let’s examine the key questions going into the second week of the NFL season.
