
The Phillies’ 2010 season has gone a bit differently than their 2008 and 2009 campaigns. The team has been decimated by injuries, some guys have flat out not shown up, and the National League has gotten noticeably better. It also doesn’t help that they’ve played two completely full seasons, having made it to back-to-back World Series. They’re tired, and beat up, and time is running out. So, with all of that in mind, I’ve got some rants and wake up calls to dole out one by one.

Earlier this year, Ryan Howard finally cashed in on a well deserved contract extension that skyrocketed him into the upper echelon of sports contracts with a 5 year, $125 million deal. Whether or not fans agree with this hefty contract, one thing is certain: it presents some questions about Philly’s power-hitting right fielder, Jayson Werth, and begs the question: “Where will he be next season?”

The quest for back-to-back World Series titles came up just short last year, as the Phillies were thwarted by a New York juggernaut. But in doing so, the Phillies solidified their role as the powerhouse and class of the National League, and made sure to let the AL know that there can be AL-power on an NL team.
